## Thermador Refrigerator Error Codes and Alarms Explained

Published October 10, 2026

Most of what owners call Thermador refrigerator error codes on a Freedom column turn out to be one of four messages: a temperature alarm showing the warmest reading the compartment reached, a door alarm, a water filter reminder, or a lit display on a unit that never gets cold because demo mode is on. Each of those can be checked from the kitchen in a few minutes. The ones that deserve a technician are alarms that return after you have cleared them and fixed the obvious cause, and a column that runs warm with no message at all.

### The temperature alarm and its warmest reading

When a Freedom freezer column climbs above its set point, the display shows the highest temperature the compartment reached. Note that number before touching anything. Then look for the reason: a door left ajar, a big load of room-temperature groceries, or a power cut. Once the cause is dealt with, pressing the confirm button clears the alarm.

The reading also decides what happens to the food. Frozen items that still hold ice crystals, or that stayed at 40°F or colder, can be refrozen, although texture may suffer. On the fresh-food side, perishables such as meat, fish, eggs and leftovers stay safe for only about 4 hours without power, and only if nobody opened the door. Never taste something to judge whether it is safe. Afternoon thunderstorms in a Jacksonville summer can drop the power for hours, so it pays to know this before it happens.

### A door alarm that keeps sounding

The door alarm is separate and simply means a door has stood open too long. Closing it silences the tone. If it keeps sounding with the door shut, find what is stopping a full seal: a drawer not pushed home, a tall bottle on a door shelf catching an interior shelf, or a gasket folded over at one corner. A torn or flattened gasket is a repair rather than an adjustment.

### The display lights up but nothing gets cold

Thermador’s guide for the T23IR905SP, T24IR905SP, T30IR905SP and T36IR905SP columns explains that demo mode keeps the lights and display working while the cabinet sits at room temperature. It sometimes gets left on after installation. Open the Appliance settings menu, switch demo mode off, and give the column several hours to pull down.

While you are in the menu, confirm the targets. The recommended settings are +39°F in the main cooling compartment, +34°F in the chill compartment and 0°F in a freezer column. Eco mode deliberately runs warmer, at +43°F on the fresh side and +3°F in the freezer, so a column left in Eco can feel slightly warm with nothing wrong. For a true reading, sink an appliance thermometer into a cup of water, leave it at mid-height in the compartment, and check the number 5 to 8 hours later.

### Filter reminders on freezer columns with ice makers

A filter message on a freezer or bottom-freezer column is a timer, not a fault. The cartridge should be changed after 6 months at the latest, and the replacement listed for these models is REPLFLTR55. Twist the old one out counter-clockwise, turn the new one clockwise until it lines up with the mark, reset the filter counter in the menu, and discard any ice made during the first 24 hours. When the reminder refuses to clear, the counter usually was not reset.

### What to note before you call

Whatever the display shows, write down the exact wording or symbol, whether it came back after clearing, and the warmest temperature if one appeared. Then open the refrigerator compartment, look on the right side near the door for the rating label, and copy the E-Nr and FD numbers. Those two lines identify the exact build, which lets a technician bring the right part on the first visit. Also vacuum the ventilation openings once a year; a clogged grille makes the cooling system labor.

### When an alarm means a repair

Book service if a temperature alarm returns within a day of being cleared, if the column hums but stays warm with demo mode off and the vents clean, if frost keeps building on the rear wall, or if the display flickers or goes blank. Those point toward a fan, a sensor, the control board or the sealed system itself.

We fit genuine OEM parts, and every visit starts with the $80 diagnostic. As a typical range, a control board or touch panel runs $410–$1,010 and sealed-system work on a refrigeration column $910–$2,270, with the firm figure given once the fault is found. Check your dates first: Thermador covers the whole appliance for 2 years, and on built-in refrigerators the sealed system adds parts and labor from the 3rd to the 6th year and parts only from the 7th to the 12th. Diagnosis · what it costs

### What would this cost to put right?

A note is not a quote. What it takes to settle the fault described above starts at a flat $80 to diagnose, credited to the repair, and lands in the bands below once parts and labor are counted.

*Thermador repair bands in Jacksonville, Duval County — parts and labor fitted, with the $80 diagnostic credited against them.*

| What failed | Cost, fitted |
| --- | --- |
| The diagnostic visit | $80, credited |
| Control board or touch panel | $410–$1,010 |
| Refrigeration column sealed system | $910–$2,270 |

A band, not a quote. Which part failed, whether the appliance has to come out of its cabinet to reach it, and whether the sealed system is opened all move the figure inside it, so the firm number is written down once the fault has a name. Written estimate before any part is ordered or fitted. [The whole price book is on the pricing page.](https://jaxthermador.com/pricing/)

Follow-up questions

### What would this cost to put right?

A flat $80 diagnostic gets a technician to the kitchen and names the fault. Repairs of the kind described here run $410–$2,270 for parts and labor, with refrigeration column sealed system ($910–$2,270) at the top of the range. Written estimate before any part is ordered or fitted.

### Can I check any of this myself before booking?

Some of it. Condenser grilles, hood filters and vent paths are owner work and cost nothing to look at. Anything behind a panel, inside a sealed system or on a live circuit is not. Describe the symptom on the phone and we will say which one it is.

### Which appliances does this apply to?

Column refrigeration. We work on Thermador and nothing else, across Jacksonville and Duval County. EPA Section 608 certified technicians for sealed-system work.
