Whichever does nothing is where the fault is. The microwave side is not a homeowner repair under any circumstances. The usual faults are simple. A drawer that will not reach temperature is normally the element or the thermostat, and those are separated by a straightforward test at the unit rather than by replacing both. A drawer that has become hard to pull is the glide hardware, and forcing it eventually bends the front panel out of alignment with the run — which turns a cheap repair into a panel that has to be ordered and matched. ### Repair or replace Built-in economics are not freestanding economics. A column past fifteen years that has already had one compressor is rarely worth a second sealed-system repair. Against that, replacing it means an opening cut for the old unit and a panel made for it, so the true cost of replacement is often not the appliance price.
