## Thermador Repair in San Marco, Jacksonville

San Marco is 32207. It was laid out in the 1920s, and what sets the ZIP apart on a service call is not anything about the appliances. It is the buildings they were fitted into.

### 1920s houses, 2020s appliances

Kitchens in the older blocks were built for a small range and an icebox, then rebuilt several times since. Every one of those rebuilds leaves a trace we have to work around.

Cabinet openings that are a half-inch shy of a modern column. Floors that were levelled with the old appliance in place, so the new one sits proud and a tall door stops sealing at the header. Soffits added in one decade and boxed out in another, which is where the depth for a wall oven quietly disappears.

None of that is visible from the front of the kitchen, which is why we measure rather than assume when a built-in in this neighborhood does not sit right.

### The circuit comes first

This is the most useful thing we can tell a San Marco owner.

Wiring in these houses was upgraded room by room rather than all at once. Panels were replaced, circuits were extended, and a kitchen was rewired to whatever the standard was during that particular remodel. Dedicated appliance circuits are the exception here, not the rule.

An induction cooktop, a speed oven or a dishwasher sharing a circuit with countertop outlets sees voltage sag every time something else starts. What that produces is an appliance that shuts down without a pattern, controls that stop responding, cycles that abort and restart cleanly the next day — symptoms indistinguishable from a failing control board.

So the sequence on every 32207 call is: confirm the supply, confirm the circuit is dedicated and correctly sized, confirm the connections at the appliance, and only then condemn the board. Fitting a new board behind an unstable circuit is money spent twice, and we have seen the same appliance eat two before anyone looked at what was feeding it. Sometimes the honest answer is that you need an electrician rather than us.

### Riverfront humidity

The blocks nearest the St. Johns carry more moisture than the rest of the city. Streets close to the water flood on high tides and heavy rain, and older houses here have crawl spaces that stay damp for weeks afterwards.

Two consequences show up in appliances. Stainless trim and hinge hardware corrode faster than the same parts a mile inland — a slow, cosmetic-first failure that eventually reaches door alignment. And a built-in dishwasher with a slow leak does far more damage than it would elsewhere, because the subfloor in a 1920s house absorbs water long before anything appears on the finish floor.

Any standing water under a dishwasher in San Marco is worth a same-week call, not a next-month one.

### Storms and boards

Duval County sees roughly 68 thunderstorm days a year, and blocks with mature canopy over the distribution lines take more brief interruptions than newer subdivisions do. The damage is cumulative rather than dramatic: repeated momentary outages and voltage sags wear the power supply section of a control board over seasons, not in one event.

Longer outages are their own problem. After the multi-day restorations that followed Matthew in 2016, Irma in 2017 and Helene in 2024, the calls that mattered arrived weeks later — boards and inverter compressors that had survived the outage and then failed during an unstable restoration.

If an appliance changed behaviour immediately after a storm, say so when you book. It narrows the diagnosis considerably.

### Epping Forest and the large estates

Epping Forest sits at the other end of the neighborhood — large riverfront properties with full custom kitchens, column refrigeration behind panelling, and ventilation running to remote blowers.

The service problem there is access rather than diagnosis. A column trimmed into a run of custom millwork cannot be pulled without a plan for the panel and the floor beneath it. We diagnose in place wherever the fault allows, and bring the unit forward only when the sealed system or the rear evaporator genuinely requires it.

### Repair or replace

The economics of a built-in are not the economics of a freestanding appliance. A column past fifteen years that has already had one compressor is rarely worth a second sealed-system repair, and we will say so. Against that, a fifteen-year column sits in an opening cut for it behind a panel made for it, and replacing it can mean cabinetry work as well as an appliance. We give you both numbers before you decide, not just the one that suits us.

### What owners in San Marco said afterwards

- ★★★★★ Our column was sheeting frost across the back wall and wanted defrosting by hand every fortnight. The defrost thermostat was the culprit, not the board somebody else had quoted for. Six weeks on there is no frost at all. Everett S. 2026-07-20
- ★★★★★ Our steam cavity refused to come up to temperature and threw its cycle every time. The generator element had failed. He fitted a new one, descaled the circuit, and showed me the water hardness reading behind all of it. Caspian D. 2026-07-23
- ★★★★★ The extractor over our range had lost most of its pull. He measured the airflow, found the ducting crushed where it turns into the attic, and reworked that section. The difference in the kitchen is night and day. Georgiana Y. 2026-07-18
