Induction cooktops
Thermador Induction Zone That Will Not Heat, Jacksonville
Zones that will not hold, cooktops that shut down mid-cook, and blowers that never stop. Diagnosed in place.
Symptoms we get called for
- One zone stops heating while the rest of the surface still works
- Surface shuts itself down part way through cooking
- Cooling fan runs long after the cooktop has been switched off
- Touch controls respond late, repeat themselves, or ignore a press entirely
- Pan is recognised, then dropped, then recognised again
- Cooktop clicks or buzzes loudly at high power settings
Induction is a power electronics problem wearing a glass lid. Nothing on a Thermador induction cooktop burns, glows or wears out the way a coil does. When it fails, the cause is almost always heat, a sensor, or a lost connection.
Start with what the appliance is actually telling you.
A single zone stops working
One dead zone with the rest of the surface healthy is good news. It narrows the fault to that zone’s inverter board, its coil, or the sensor sitting under the glass at its centre.
Coils rarely fail on their own. Inverter boards fail when they run hot, and they run hot when the cooling path is obstructed. That is the first thing we check, because it also explains why the same board failed twice.
The cooktop shuts down mid-cook
A Thermador induction top protects itself. When the electronics under the glass exceed their limit, the surface reduces power or stops.
Three things cause that here.
The first is airflow. Induction cooktops pull cooling air from below and exhaust it through a vent. Installed over a drawer, over a wall oven, or into a too-tight cutout, that air path gets choked. Jacksonville kitchens that were retrofitted rather than built for induction are the usual offenders.
The second is a dirty or blocked vent. Grease and dust build on the intake mesh and reduce flow long before anyone notices.
The third is a genuine thermistor or board fault. That is a repair, not an adjustment, and we quote it in writing.
Pans that come and go
Induction only heats ferrous cookware. If a pan is recognised and then dropped, the usual culprit is the pan, not the cooktop. Thin bases warp with heat and lift off the glass. A base that no longer sits flat loses coupling and the zone reports an empty ring.
Test with a heavy flat-bottomed pan before booking a call. A magnet on the base tells you whether the pan is even a candidate.
If a known-good pan drops out on one zone only, the fault is in the appliance.
Touch controls
Late, repeated or ignored presses usually trace to moisture or to the control board’s ribbon connection, not to the glass.
Standing water on the surface confuses capacitive controls. So does a wet cloth left across the panel. If the behaviour clears when the glass is dry and cool, nothing is broken.
Persistent misreads with dry glass point at the touch board. On a full-surface induction top, that board also carries the zone mapping, so we test it before replacing anything expensive.
Noise
Induction is not silent. Buzzing at high power is normal, and it changes with the pan. A laminated base can rattle at frequency.
What is not normal is a cooling fan that runs constantly, or a fan that whines and drones. That is a bearing, and a failing fan will take the inverter board with it if it is ignored.
Cracks in the glass
We do not repair cracked induction glass. A crack, a chip at the edge, or a hard impact means the surface is replaced. Anything else risks a live surface above wet electronics.
If your glass is cracked, tell us on the phone so we bring the right part information to the visit.
What the visit costs

What does this repair cost in Jacksonville?
Flat $80 to diagnose it, credited to the repair. The rows below are the bands this appliance actually lands in once the part is fitted and the panel is back on.
| What failed | Cost, fitted |
|---|---|
| The diagnostic visit | $80, credited |
| Control board or touch panel | $410–$1,010 |
| Door hinge, glass or seal | $180–$700 |
A band, not a quote. Which part failed, whether the appliance has to come out of its cabinet to reach it, and how much of it has to be stripped to get at the part all move the figure inside it, so the firm number is written down once the fault has a name. Written estimate before any part is ordered or fitted. The whole price book is on the pricing page.
Before you book this repair
How much does induction cooktop repair cost in Jacksonville?
The visit is a flat $80 diagnostic, credited to the repair. Finished jobs on this appliance land in $180–$1,010 for parts and labor together — door hinge, glass or seal ($180–$700) at the light end, control board or touch panel ($410–$1,010) at the heavy one. The firm figure is written down before a part is ordered.
Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?
A comparable Thermador wall oven, rangetop or column, appliance only — before delivery, installation or cabinetry. National appliance pricing, not Florida labour. That puts replacement at $4,200–$14,500 against a repair band of $180–$1,010. If the diagnosis says the appliance is not worth the work, you get that in writing too, and the diagnostic is what you paid for.
One zone stops heating while the rest of the surface still works. What gets checked first?
The supply and the installation before the electronics: the circuit feeding the appliance, then the opening, the clearance and the air path, then the mechanism, and the board last. A board fitted behind an unstable circuit fails again, which is the most expensive way to be wrong about a diagnosis.

What owners said after this repair
★★★★★
Touch controls were dead along one edge. He lifted the glass carefully, found a connector that had backed out of its socket with heat cycling, and reseated and locked it. Nothing charged for a part I did not need.
Auberon F.
★★★★★
The cooktop kept throwing itself off mid-simmer. Salt-laden air had loaded the intake mesh under the counter until nothing could breathe. He cleared it, checked the exhaust path, and it has not cut out since.
Montague D.
★★★★★
A 1920s kitchen with one poor circuit feeding half the room. He measured before he opened anything and told me plainly that the cooktop was healthy and the wiring was not. Honest answer, and no part sold.
