Thermador Speed Oven With Half the Heat, Mandarin

Mandarin is 32223, and it is not one neighborhood. It does not service like one either. Tell us roughly when the kitchen was built when you call — it genuinely changes what we bring.

Two very different housing stocks

Old Mandarin, along the river and the older stretches of San Jose Boulevard, has houses going back a century. Kitchens there share every constraint of the historic retrofit belt: undersized cabinet openings, floors levelled around the previous appliance, and circuits extended piecemeal rather than run dedicated. A column refrigerator or a speed oven on a shared circuit throws intermittent faults that look exactly like failing electronics, and we test the supply before we quote a board for precisely that reason.

Beauclerc, Loretto, Cormorant Landing, River Story and the Julington Creek side are largely later construction on generous lots. Kitchens there were built with built-ins in mind, so the openings are right and the circuits are usually dedicated. The failures are ordinary component failures, and they are quicker to diagnose because the install can be ruled out early rather than argued about.

Tree canopy and power

Mandarin’s mature oak canopy is one of the reasons people live here, and it is also why the neighborhood takes more brief power interruptions than open subdivisions do. Duval County sees roughly 68 thunderstorm days a year, and limbs over lines account for a lot of short outages.

Built-in control boards do not like repeated dirty power, and the wear is cumulative rather than dramatic. A momentary outage that drops and restores in under a second, a brownout while the grid recovers, a surge as service comes back and every air conditioner on the street restarts at once — electronics tolerate any one of those, and the repeated cycles are what stress the power supply section of the board.

Longer outages are a separate problem. After the multi-day restorations that followed Matthew in 2016, Irma in 2017 and Helene in 2024, the failures that mattered arrived weeks later rather than during the storm: control boards and inverter compressors that came back on, ran, and then quit. A Thermador appliance that changed behaviour immediately after a storm — a dead panel, phantom presses, a display that lights but does not respond — is a board question, and we test the supply before fitting a replacement.

If a column was warm for several hours, give it a full day to recover before judging it. If it has not returned to setpoint by then, the fault is real.

Speed ovens

A speed oven is two appliances sharing a cavity: a microwave side, a convection side, and a control board deciding how much of each to use. When one disappoints, the first job is working out which half stopped, and that is easy to test — run a short convection-only cycle and feel the cavity, then run a microwave-only cycle with a cup of water. Whichever does nothing is where the fault is.

The microwave side is not a homeowner repair under any circumstances. The capacitor in that circuit holds a lethal charge after the appliance is unplugged, and it gets discharged as a matter of routine before anything else happens.

Warming drawers

We take an unusual number of warming drawer calls in this part of the city, which follows from the housing stock. Large kitchens built for entertaining tend to include one, and a warming drawer is the appliance most likely to go years without anyone noticing it has stopped working properly.

The usual faults are simple. A drawer that will not reach temperature is normally the element or the thermostat, and those are separated by a straightforward test at the unit rather than by replacing both. A drawer that has become hard to pull is the glide hardware, and forcing it eventually bends the front panel out of alignment with the run — which turns a cheap repair into a panel that has to be ordered and matched.

Repair or replace

Built-in economics are not freestanding economics. A column past fifteen years that has already had one compressor is rarely worth a second sealed-system repair. Against that, replacing it means an opening cut for the old unit and a panel made for it, so the true cost of replacement is often not the appliance price. We put both numbers in front of you and let you choose.

What does a repair cost in Mandarin?

One book for the whole radius: a flat $80 to diagnose, credited to the repair, then the table below — the same one quoted at every address in Duval County. Distance inside the radius adds nothing.

Thermador repair bands in Jacksonville, Duval County — parts and labor fitted, with the $80 diagnostic credited against them.
What failed Cost, fitted
The diagnostic visit $80, credited
Igniter, spark module or surface element $200–$500
Oven thermostat or temperature sensor $170–$570
Bake or broil element $200–$530
Convection fan or motor $250–$660
Control board or touch panel $410–$1,010
Door hinge, glass or seal $180–$700
Refrigeration column sealed system $910–$2,270

A band, not a quote. Which part failed, whether the appliance has to come out of its cabinet to reach it, and whether the sealed system is opened all move the figure inside it, so the firm number is written down once the fault has a name. Written estimate before any part is ordered or fitted. The whole price book is on the pricing page.

Asked from Mandarin

Do you cover Mandarin?

Yes — 32223, inside Duval County and well within the 40-mile radius we drive. Monday to Friday 8:00am – 6:00pm, Saturday 9:00am – 4:00pm. Scheduled appointments only. We do not run a 24-hour or emergency line.

What does a Thermador repair cost in Mandarin?

The same book as everywhere else we go: a flat $80 diagnostic credited to the repair, and finished work in $170–$2,270 for parts and labor, by the part that failed. Distance inside the radius changes nothing, and no trip charge is stacked on top of the diagnostic.

What goes wrong most often in Mandarin?

What shapes a call here: two build eras. Old Mandarin kitchens sit in century-old houses while the Julington Creek side is later construction, and the two fail in completely different ways. Away from the salt line it is wear, heat and supply faults rather than corrosion. The lines we are called to here are column refrigeration, dishwashers, speed ovens, warming drawers.

What owners in Mandarin said afterwards

4.7 out of 5, from 66 customer reviews. A few of them are below; the rest sit on the page for the repair or the part of town they were filed in. One kitchen and one fault apiece, printed as they reached us.
  • The oven ran cool and food came out underdone. The temperature sensor had drifted. He replaced it and verified against his own probe, which I appreciated. It needed a follow-up call to settle a rattle.

    Celestine U.

  • Our speed oven began stopping mid-programme with no pattern to it. He worked through the supply, the door switches and then the board, in that order, and the fault turned out to be a tired door switch.

    Marguerite Y.

  • The hood lights kept flickering and one bank had died altogether. He replaced the driver and both banks, and tidied the loom while he was in there. A second visit was needed for a trim piece.
